File:Kim_Jong-il_on_North_Korean_stamps.JPG[edit]
Not a "documents of State management such as ordinance, decision or directive, current news and bulletins." User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 05:48, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- Comment Commons:Stamps/Public domain#North Korea suggests that North Korea stamps are in the PD. If it is not the case, it should be corrected. BrightRaven (talk) 13:12, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
- The copyright law says "documents of State management such as ordinance, decision or directive, current news and bulletins shall not be the object of copyright" and just need to find out if a stamp is considered a "document of State management." - The examples given in the law ("ordinance, decision or directive, current news and bulletins") suggest that stamps are not concerned. So I would say they are not in the PD. BrightRaven (talk) 09:05, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
- Original text: 제12조 법령, 결정, 지시 같은 국가관리문건과 시사보도물, 통보자료 같은 것은 저작권의 대상으로 되지 않는다.
- The relevant word here is kat'ŭn/같은, the attributive form of katta/같다, which connects the examples (ordinances/pŏmnyŏng/법령/法令etc.) with documents of state administration/kukka kwalli mun'gŏn/국가관리문건/國家管理文件. If I understand the word correctly, a "document of state administration" has to be similar to the examples given. On the other hand, the English expression "such as", as used in the translation, could be interpreted to mean that the examples are just examples and that a "document of state administration" may be very different to any of the examples. I think that the original Korean text, which I assume is the only text which has any legal status, should be interpreted as not including stamps. However, my knowledge of Korean is very basic and I might be wrong. --Stefan4 (talk) 00:08, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- It means "such as" here. Compare English "state documents like ..." --Tyrannus Mundi (talk) 15:29, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

- Delete Just going by the phrase Stefan4 gives above, as given in the Chinese characters (which, by the way, makes sense in Chinese), I think we can say these stamps don't qualify as "documents of state administration". The important part of the phrase in Chinese is "文件", which refers exclusively to textual documents; things like letters, books, official publications, and documents pertaining to matters of official governmental business. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 02:12, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
